The sweet spot of the Indian credit card market sits between Rs 1,500 and Rs 5,000 in annual fees. You get meaningful benefits without paying the Rs 10,000-plus fees that premium cards demand. But the range is crowded and the cards are very different in what they offer.

Tata Neu Infinity HDFC

Annual fee: Rs 1,499 (waived at Rs 3 lakh spend). Not a travel card -- a platform card for users embedded in the Tata ecosystem: BigBasket for groceries, Croma for electronics, Air India Express for flights, Tanishq for jewellery. Earn rate: 5% NeuCoins on Tata Neu app spends, 1.5% on everything else. 1 NeuCoin equals Re 1. The RuPay variant earns 1.5% NeuCoins on UPI transactions. Lounge access is now milestone-based rather than direct swipe. Note: SBI also offers the identical Tata Neu Infinity SBI Card at the same fee, with a lower forex markup of 1.99%.

HDFC Regalia Gold

Annual fee: Rs 2,500 (waived at Rs 4 lakh spend). 4 reward points per Rs 100, redeemable against flights and hotels via SmartBuy portal. A notable downgrade in 2025: domestic lounge access is now available at select airports only, reducing utility for Tier-2 city users. Good for someone who wants a general rewards card from HDFC without paying Infinia-level fees.

BOBCARD Eterna

Annual fee: Rs 2,499 (waived at Rs 2.5 lakh annual spend; currently available lifetime free for income above Rs 12 lakh, offer valid until June 2026).

Earn rate: 15 reward points per Rs 100 on dining, travel, online shopping, and international spends (effective 3.75% cashback at 1 RP = Rs 0.25). 3 reward points per Rs 100 on all other spends.

Lounge: Unlimited domestic visits subject to Rs 40,000 spend in the preceding quarter. No international lounge. Forex markup: 2%. BOGO movie ticket once per month via District (up to Rs 250 off). HSBC TravelOne
